Job Description:
We are looking for a self-motivated, hard-working, dedicated individual to join our Production team!
The Quality Analyst will be accountable for partnering with our production team to execute quality standards from grain to glass. While being an analytical and laboratory-centered position, the Quality Analyst assists all production staff in problem-solving matters that are quality-related.
The ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate for Independent Craft Beer and be motivated to grow within the company and stay for the long term.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Collect and perform analytical procedures and testing on raw materials, in progress beer, as well as packaged goods (water, wort, yeast, beer, brewery equipment, and environment).
Use, maintain and calibrate analytical equipment and instrumentation which includes but not limited to spectrophotometer, glassware, pH meters, Anton Paar C-Box, PFD and DMA35.
Maintains accurate and detailed record of QC data in spreadsheets and brewery management software
Communicate consistently with brewery personnel and management regarding quality assurance issues.
Executes, updates, and provides recommendations for Standard Operating Procedure and policy review
Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
Develop reporting systems, and analyzes said data and discerns new processes and/or corrective actions.
Identifies critical control points and drives overall process control and improvement.
Advocate and promote continuous quality and safety improvement.
Maintain an organized beer archive.
Facilitate sensory panel and formulate results.
Prepares microbiological media, sterile plating, and microscopic analysis of microbial growth
Identifies microbes in case of contamination and performs risk assessments of said products
Conducts aseptic and environmental sampling throughout the brewery
Maintain inventory of lab equipment and expendables
Develops a robust sensory program including education of staff, analysis, and testing
Attend meetings, brewery functions, and perform duties within the lab as required
Serves as a driver of draft quality and freshness of all products, across all **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. locations, by working with front of house teams to ensure best serving practices are being observed and assisting in troubleshooting as needed
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary
Required Experience:
Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application
Bachelor's degree in a science-intensive discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, etc.)
Knowledge of beer production process
Knowledge and understanding of basic laboratory functions and microbiological concepts
Strong work ethic and self-starting attitude
Good interpersonal skills and team spirit
The desire to work in a fast-paced, growing company
Genuine enthusiasm for craft beer
Physical Requirements:
Able to stand for prolonged periods
Able to stoop, crawl, twist, turn, lift, kneel, climb ladders and stairs
Able to manipulate valves and clamps
Able to regularly lift/carry 44-pound boxes
Able to regularly lift/carry 55-pound bags above waist level
Able to regularly twist, turn, kneel, climb, stoop, bend, crawl, lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds using appropriate techniques and tools
Able to lift/move 165 pounds with appropriate equipment and/or assistance
Able to proficiently stack and move barrels on barrel racks
Able to comply with safe chemical handling procedures, including personal protection equipment such as gloves and goggles
Able to both work, and thrive, in a high-stress environment that has a quiet to moderate noise level
Able to read and follow written English instructions
Able to safely navigate the taprooms, including crowded spaces
Able to work in a factory/production environment which may be loud, slick, humid, cold, and hot
Able to work in indoor and outdoor environments with moderate noise and occasionally slippery floors
Able to comply with and enforce all health, safety, and personal hygiene policies and standards
