Job Description:
The 3D Printing Technician plays an important role within research for Shell especially within the Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam (ETCA). To provide high-quality service to research departments and operational locations within or outside ETCA, it is required that a 3D Printing Technician is strong in creating innovative technical solutions by designing and engineering applications, equipment and parts.
The demand for additive manufacturing is growing. With the fast pace of this quickly developing and changing technique, it is key to have knowledge and expertise of the latest technologies. You will be exposed to a wide range and type of projects for research and development across Shell, typically in the areas of parts replacement and novel applications. Furthermore, the job plays an active role in designing and fabricating 3D printed products in a wide range of materials.
Where you fit in
As 3D Printing Technician, you will be part of the Mechanical Workshop and 3D Printing Center of Excellence team at ETCA. In this role you will be working closely with customers and researchers of ETCA and other global operational locations within Shell.
You will be working in a world class facility, with a state of the art workshop at an attractive location with skilled resources with good links to different innovation networks and external suppliers. The 3D Printing workshop is equipped with several metal 3D Printers, industrial polymer 3D Printers and laboratory sized prototyping 3D Printers. You will be the to-go-to person related to additive manufacturing questions and are knowledgeable of the latest developments in the technology.
What’s the role?
You will be responsible for the end-to-end process in additive manufacturing. This starts with understanding the needs of the customer, developing, and iterating designs, preparing the machines and print jobs as well as the actual printing of the job. This also includes post-processing and shipping the parts. You will be active in projects and will advise customers fulfilling their needs.
In the role you will:
Control and operate the whole value chain for 3D printing, delivering a full end-to-end service on 3D printing jobs:
Reversed engineering of a wide variety of parts
Operating and maintaining metal/plastic state-of-the-art 3D printers and its peripherals
Developing complex 3D CAD models and preparing print jobs
Post-processing of additive manufactured parts
Being responsible for quality control and quality assurance of 3D printed parts by following and initiating standard operating procedures and generating inspection reports
Hands-on troubleshooting when there are print quality issues or technical issues with machines
Providing advice and guidance to stakeholders
Deliver instruction, explanation, supervision, and commissioning of the work delivered
Play an active role in maintenance and modernization of the workshop equipment, including stakeholder management with external suppliers
Sharing findings within the field of 3D printing internally and externally
Actively participating in Agile ways of working
What we need from you
You need to have at least a Mechanical Engineer/Mechatronics/Product Design Engineer/ Research Instrument Maker (MBO or HBO level)
Exposure in the field of additive manufacturing including familiarity with operation of major brands of 3D Printers in the market
Experienced in 3D designing with Siemens NX or similar
Knowledge and experience in a wide variety of techniques in 3D Printing and other fabrication methods in the instrument maker field and know how to use them in your designs
Knowledge on existing international standards in additive manufacturing
Written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English
